Recruitment and Development of Type 04 Teachers (Basic Skills Course)
In 2007, Chicago Metro AEYC developed a bilingual basic skills preparatory course to assist English language learners in passing the Illinois Basic Skills Test, formerly recognized as a barrier to Type 04 certification. The pass rate for this course is higher than the norms for other preparatory courses.
Membership-to-Leadership Program
This program prepares college students for future roles as presenters and advocates for early childhood education. Students are provided an opportunity to step into the early childhood professional arena and learn from the numerous individuals and organizations—members of Chicago Metro AEYC—who lead the early childhood community in the state of Illinois.
Community Garden Project
Food security, health, wellness, nutrition and obesity are concerns for all of us. In response, we established the Preschool Community Gardens Project to bring families and schools together, and to teach about health, wellness and nutrition. Early childhood centers serve as skill- building learning hubs where families learn new skills as well as how to access and grow healthy fruits and vegetables at no cost to them.
