Community Garden Project

The Chicago Metro AEYC Community Garden Project presents an opportunity for two Cicero child care centers to partner with Chicago Metro AEYC to connect children and families with nature, fresh foods and one another.

The selected child care center will develop, plant, and maintain a community garden at their center and be willing to showcase their garden, periodically during the growing season.

Early childhood centers interested in applying will submit proposals and be chosen based on their ability to provide adequate land space and volunteers to create and maintain the gardens.

The gardens will provide nutritious food--at no cost--for the children and families who attend the centers. The gardens will also provide families the opportunity to learn how to organically garden in an urban environment, and give families a venue in which to work with others, developing relationships and strengthening the community.

The teachers, families and children--along with Chicago Metro AEYC and its community partners--will be actively involved in the garden.

A Community Garden Can...
  • Save money!
  • Provide nutritious meals!
  • Get parents involved!
  • Teach children about nature!
  • Help prevent childhood obesity!
