Grassroots Community Action Plan
There are still a surprising number of people, those who work outside of human services, who are unaware of the detrimental effects the "Doomsday Budget" will have on the children and families in Illinois. We must strengthen our efforts to ensure that a fair budget, one that does not cut services to our most vulnerable citizens, is passed into law. The General Assembly will reconvene on Monday and Tuesday of next week and it's imperative that they feel our urgency around this issue.
How do we keep the pressure on our legislatures?
A longtime Chicago Metro AEYC member, Bonnie Becker, recently started a grassroots campaign in her neighborhood and passed flyers out door to door to inform her neighbors how the budget cuts would affect their community. The results were powerful and even her neighbors who did not share her political view became motivated to act. This weekend, we are asking you to do the same.
Please print as many flyers as you can and pass them out in your neighborhood. Write the name of your legislator on the bottom of the flyer along with their contact information. If you do not know who your legislators are, click here to look-up their contact information. Click the address tab and enter in your home address. Be sure to list both the State Senator and State Representative on your flyer.
Thank you in advance for your determination and support. Please call our office if you have any questions or would like to share your experience of getting your community involved.
